Experts visited AEFUTHA to provide hands-on training and support research advancements, strengthening West Africa’s pandemic preparedness.
As part of CEPI’s program to enhance clinical trial capacity and pandemic preparedness in West Africa, a team of experts recently visited the Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital Abakaliki (AEFUTHA) in Abakaliki, Nigeria.
The visit, conducted in collaboration with MMARCRO, aimed to provide hands-on training in clinical trial management and community engagement, helping participants develop the skills needed for successful research. The training was well received, with experts at AEFUTHA actively participating and showing a strong interest in improving clinical research in Nigeria.

In addition to the training, the team visited two satellite facilities and the newly built Clinical Trial Unit, which will support ongoing and future research projects. These improvements are an important step in improving Nigeria’s capacity for clinical research and pandemic response.
A special thanks to Chief Medical Director, Prof. Robinson Chukwudi Onoh, and Principal Investigator, Prof. Benedict N. Azuogu for welcoming the team and supporting this initiative.
With these efforts, AEFUTHA is strengthening its role in clinical research and contributing to better healthcare solutions in West Africa.
